We are all aware that we are busy going through a global economic slump and it is affecting us all in different ways, what with many people being laid off from work, increasing prices and lower returns on investments, most of us are or should be looking for ways to tighten our belts a bit so as to be able to save more.
In my Warriors Against Debt Course I go into very detailed and effective ways of breaking the shackles of debt and how to lead a debt free life, however here are a couple of simple tips which might help you to get started as to reducing your monthly expenses.
-
Work to a Definite Budget – It is essential to always work to a definite and defined budget, by doing so you will be sure to know exactly where you stand financially. Be sure to have an accurate amount as to what your expenses and incomes are down to the last cent when you work out your budget.
-
Settle your main Bills before anything else – Always be sure to pay the essential accounts first such as your bond, water and electricity and any other accounts which you might have which you have to pay in order to be able to survive and keep your roof over your head.
-
Quit the Credit – Stop using your credit card as much as you possibly can, without even sometimes realizing it, you are opening up a downward spiral for your financial situation by simply buying on credit. Rather save up and buy what it is which you want when you can afford it. Credit costs are one of the main money eaters in the modern home.
-
Eat Out Less – We as modern society tend to be caught up by the convenience of the consumer age, as I teach my Wealth Creators Mentors Students, we have been programmed to believe everything should be fast and convenient, well this might be good for the franchise outlets but definitely not for your health or budget. Begin to cook more at home and you will be amazed as to how much you will save.
-
Learn to Unplug – Many of us are unaware that appliances which are turned off and left plugged in still use considerable energy and therefore cost us money for nothing, rather unplug computers, televisions and cell charges when they are not in use and you will definitely see the difference on your energy bill at the end of the month.
-
Lower Your Thermostat Settings – By simply lowering the settings on your household thermostat you will be able to dramatically decrease your energy consumption and still live very comfortably.
-
Shopping Savers – Try to avoid buying more expensive brand names when you are doing your shopping, this will also greatly reduce your grocery expenses. Rather try to do your grocery shopping at the discount stores where prices are usually considerably lower, even if this means you need to go out of your way by a short distance so as to get to the store.
Be sure to make shopping lists of what it is you really need and stick to the lists, also avoid shopping on an empty stomach as this has been proven to lead to unnecessary spending as your shopping is then driven by hunger and not essentials.
Also be sure to make use of any coupons which might be available, the coupon value might not seem much at first but if you have a few and add them all together, you will be amazed at the difference which they can make to your overall bill.
These are but a few but effective ways by which you can go about lowering your expenses on a monthly basis, we are all creatures of habit but when it comes to surviving tough financial times we need to make a concerted mental effort to break these bad spending habits so as to be able to benefit ourselves and our families.
