When it comes to getting organized whether it be at home or in the office, the principles stay the same. There are so many excuses or crutches which people use on a regular basis so as not to have to be confronted with the initial task of taking time to be organized in their lives, excuses such as “I don’t have the time!” or “I work better in the chaos!” are often used.
The truth of the matter though is quite the opposite, we are actually as a species very reliant on organization to determine our success and effectiveness, it is only the incorrect habits which we have become accustomed to and the thought of having to exert a bit of extra energy in the beginning phases of getting organized which we often allow to deter us.
The truth behind it all however is that to truly make the most of our time and to become more efficient in that which we are doing relies greatly on our ability to be organized and our clear knowing of where it is which we are headed. As I tell my Wealth Creators Mentors students, “How can you possibly plan to reach your destination or goal effectively and in the fastest possible time if you do not know where it is you are aiming to go?”
Yes to actually start to become organized in the work place or at home might take up more of your time initially, but once you have the systems and procedures in place which help you to remain organized, you will be absolutely amazed at how more efficiently and accurately you will be able to perform the tasks you need to in far less time than you would have been able to before.
Here are a couple of tips to help you in the right direction when it comes to getting a bit of order out of the chaos in your office or home life.
1. Apply the Kaizen Principle – The Kaizen Principle teaches you that you need not build Rome in a day, but that you should rather focus on simply making daily improvements at a steady pace every day which will bring you closer to achieving your goal, in other words it is a journey of constant and never ending improvement.
So when you know how it is which you need to implement the organization which you seek in your life, don’t let yourself be deterred by thoughts that it all needs to be done immediately, rather implement this principle and make sure that every day you are improving and bringing yourself closer to the goal which you have in mind.
2. Be realistic in your goal setting – Don’t try to set your organizational goals to high, yes focus on the dream but make your immediate goals as to how get organized achievable on a daily basis, this way you will be able to mark them off as they are achieved and will be able to see that you are progressing, remember, each step forward in the right direction is a victory and brings you closer to your end goal.
So if your end goal is to have a clean and organized office, instead of trying to clean and organize the office in one day, rather take a day or two for cleaning and then a day or two for the organization, this way getting organized will not take up to much of the time required of you to be able to effectively do your other work.
3. Turn bad habits into good ones – Sit down and be honest with yourself and assess what bad habits of yours lead to your disorganization. Then what you need to do is find ways to turn these bad habits into good ones.
Say for example your paperwork is always lying around and you find yourself spending hours trying to make sense of it all at the end of the week. Make it a good habit to then rather take the extra five minutes at the end of the day so as to keep your paperwork and filing up to date so as to avoid this scenario, you will be amazed at what a difference it makes to your productivity in the long run.
4. Recognize and affirm what it is which you have achieved – By taking the time to recognize the progress which you have made on a daily basis and to affirm this mentally you will be taking great strides in the direction of keeping yourself motivated and bringing yourself closer to achieving your goals.
Many people forget to evaluate that which they have achieved and give themselves recognition therefore and this is why so many people loose that driving force behind them which is known as self motivation.
Whether it is in your career, home life or any other area of your life, it is a proven fact that being organized and having effective systems in place will have very positive effects on your mental state and the results which you achieve in what you choose to do.
Yes in the beginning it might be time consuming and awkward, but this feeling of being out of your comfort zone, as I teach my Alchemist Mentoring students is all part of the process of growing and moving forward. Just remember, if we are not moving forward or growing, then we are either sliding backwards or dying.
