Dieting the Healthy Way

The majority of people see dieting as a way to loose weight, but very often they do it in a way which can be very detrimental to their overall health. Many crash diets and quick fixes when it comes to dieting actually have a very negative effect on your overall health and the effects are often short lived

If you are concerned by your weight and are looking for ways to shed a couple of pounds and feel better about yourself, it is a good thing. But when you do this by starving your body of essential nutrients or by taking all sorts of sometimes dangerous diet mixtures then you are very likely to suffer from the negative effects.

Dieting need not be an over night thing, but should rather become part of a healthier lifestyle, this way the effects which you achieve will be sustainable and far longer lasting. Now this does not mean that you have to suddenly make a whole lot of drastic changes, rather phase the changes in gradually so as to be able to reap maximum rewards.

Here are a few tips which might get you started down the road to a slimmer and healthier lifestyle.
  • Keep it natural – Try to incorporate as many fruits and vegetables as you can into your daily eating. Consider having fruit for breakfast and try to eat salads which are packed with raw natural goodness more often. Substitute your snacks with fruit or vegetables and you will be amazed at the difference.

  • Go grain – Try to stick to whole grain products rather than opting for those made of refined grain, in other words, substitute your white bread with whole grain bread. Whole grain products have far higher nutrition content and contain far more fiber than the refined grain products which means they are far better for the digestive system.

  • Find the balance – To make your diet sustainable and healthy, you will need to be sure that it is properly balanced. Educate yourself to the essential food groups and try to include each of them in proportion in your meal, many diets encourage you to cut out certain of the food groups, but this is not healthy for you and will end up having a negative effect on your health in the long run. Rather find things which you like from all of the essential food groups and include them in your daily diet.

  • Seductive soda – Try not to be seduced by carbonated soft drinks as they can be addictive and even those which carry the zero calorie labels can be very bad for your health. The sugar or sugar like taste in the diet versions, mislead your body into thinking it is getting sugar and will result in further sugar cravings and we all know what that leads to.

  • Limit the luxuries – Sweets, caffeine and alcohol should be kept on a tight leash as they all can have very detrimental effects on your overall health. Limiting yourself to one cup of coffee per day is fine, even less if you can. Try to limit your sweet intake to special occasions as they really are pound packers. Alcohol can also be enjoyed in moderation, say for instance a glass of wine in the evening, but more than that will definitely have an impact on your health.

  • Wonderful water – Water is the one thing which you can have as much of as you like, in fact, the more the better. Your body craves and needs water to function correctly and far too many of us confuse being thirsty and being hungry. More often than not you might feel hungry but in fact it is a cry from your body for hydration, so try to drink as much water as possible, the great part is that water carries no calories.

  • Allow for breathers – Allow yourself the occasional breather so as to reward yourself, now by this I am not talking about binging, but if there is a special occasion it is alright to take a break and enjoy the occasion, just be sure that you do not allow your diet to become an obsession as this can also have negative results. It is not necessarily your weight which is important but rather your state of health. If you are living a healthy lifestyle then your weight will automatically be corrected.
Lifestyle changes can sometimes prove to be difficult to make, but as I teach the students on my Kaizen-Wealth Program, the reason for this is that these changes force you out of your comfort zone. I personally think this is fantastic as when you are out of your comfort zone, you are learning, and when you are learning, you are moving forward. Isn’t that amazing?

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be constantly moving in a positive direction? Try getting out of your comfort zone for a while and feel the amazing effects which it can have on your life.

I would like to leave you with a question. If we are unable to respect our own bodies and minds, how can we expect others to? Please let me know what you think or if there is anything else which you would like to share

What you eat is almost as important ans what you do. Sitting behind a computer all day, and infront of a TV at night will also have very negative effects on your health and weight.

Eating healthy nutritional meals regularly over long periods of time will definitely make a huge improvement in your quality of life. You will be able to put into practice Hannes’ mentoring to much greater effect as your body and mind will be in a healthy state. Food is like brain power, if it’s rubbish then your brain won’t be able to function properly.

I have been a student of Hannes for over five years now, but since going to a nutritionist and following a daily food plan I feel I am able to grasp the concepts better, and I am putting everything I have learnt so far into perspective.

Another bit of great advice from you Hannes. Thanks again, Mark Bruins, Action Taker in the making…
