I believe that ones memory and thinking ability is one of the most important faculties which we have, so being able to keep your memory and mind in tip top condition should be a must for all of us. Unfortunately as times goes by we often find that our memory may start to fade, but this need not be the case.
There are ways by which you will effectively be able to give your brain the exercise which it needs to stay in good form and the great part about it is that they can be incorporated easily into your daily routine. By following these couple of basic tips on a daily basis, you will be able to take very definite steps to improving your memory and keeping your brain in a healthy condition.
- Don’t rush – This is essential when you know that you need to remember information which is being dealt with, if you are pushing yourself to rush through something, the chances that you will forget a lot of the detail is very good, so rather take your time so that you are able to absorb all the information you are dealing with accurately and effectively.
- Organization – If you are well organized, you will find it easier to remember what you did and when. If you battle with keeping your life organized, try to refine this skill by writing down reminders and keeping track of all the data which you require. By doing this you will start to become more organized and will see that things become easier to remember.
- Repetition helps – The more one repeats something to yourself, the more chance there is that it will be transferred from the short term to the long term memory, in other words, say you need to remember a whole lot of names, repeat them out aloud over and over and then write them down or if it is information, make cue cards for yourself and review them on a regular basis, this all will dramatically help you to improve your memory.
- Power of puzzles – Puzzles and brain teasers are excellent exercise for the brain, try to incorporate some form of puzzle or brain teaser into your life on a daily basis, this is almost like a workout for the mind and helps to stimulate the brain cells which are very helpful towards improving ones memory. As I teach my Kaizen-Wealth students, mental exercise on a daily basis is just as, if not more important, as physical exercise.
- Starve the stress – Try to reduce the stress in your life as much as is possible as long term stress has been proven to do a considerable amount of damage to ones mental health. A good idea would be for you to start and end your day with stress relieving meditation exercises such as those which I supply my Kaizen Wealth students, in these exercises you take approximately half an hour of your time to relax and concentrate on mental stimulation both on a conscious and subconscious level.
- Reviving rest – Sleep is a very important aspect of our lives and if you are depriving yourself of sleep it diminishes the brains functionality and ability to concentrate. If the brain is not functioning effectively, it will be less likely to transfer information from the short term to the long term memory, so make the effort to be sure that you are getting enough rest.
- Positive power – Far too many of us do not realize the potential power of a positive attitude. You can ask any of my students who have been on my Wealth Creators Mentoring program how much importance I place on this fact. When one is positive you will achieve your desire and the same is true of the memory, believe that you have a good memory and it will do wonders for you and the condition of your memory.
- Detrimental distractions – If you allow distractions to break your concentration, chances are that the information which you were concentrating on will never make it to your long term memory. So try to avoid any form of distraction such as the television in the background while trying to absorb information which you need to be committed to your long term memory.
- Healthy mind, healthy body – This saying is not simply a lot of hot air, it has been proven that the better shape you are in physically, the better the state of your mind and thus your memory. Regular exercise helps to circulate blood through the body and thus also the brain which results in a healthier mental condition.
These are but a few tips of ways for you to improve your memory, perhaps you have a few techniques of your own which you would like to share? At the end of the day, we only get one brain in life, so why not try to do all we can to preserve it to the best of our ability? After all this is the one feature of us all which makes us unique and special and helps to structure our lives positively if used correctly.
