If you’re gold, for goodness’ sake, glitter!
Remember the story last week about the woman who was gold to her boss, but he never noticed? He treated her like nothing special, and she left. And that was when he realized for the first time that she was an angel in disguise. She was gold, but he hadn’t noticed.
He really lost out, but how about her?
She did too.
She left with nothing. After 20 years of building someone else’s business. Why? Because just like he didn’t see her value, she didn’t either.
So what was her mistake? Not to value herself enough. To accept the conditioning that told her to give without thought of receiving. To put all her thought into his business, without thinking about her own business: herself.
This is a common mistake. All of us who are, or ever have been, employees, make it. We are shocked when we realize how little thought our employers put into us, when we have been putting all our thought and effort into their business.
We are trained to do this. We live by myths that we never question, including
“give and you will receive”
“work hard and you will be rewarded”
“the meek shall inherit the earth”
J Paul Getty once said “the meek may inherit the earth, but not the mineral rights” . This is the Getty who founded Getty Oil and was named as the richest living American in 1957.
What did he mean?
He meant that the meek would never get the real gold hidden beneath the surface. They would never get it because they did not realize it was there. It would go to those who recognized the hidden value.
This is true of mineral rights and it’s true of us. Our own gold, our talents, our effort, our thought, our work, goes to benefit those who realize its true value, and that is not always ourselves!
The lesson: only when we put the same kind of thought and care into our own lives as we do into our employers’ businesses, will we start to break free of those myths that trap us and make others rich. Self-education is key ... and so is valuing yourself.
The best way to educate yourself to get financially free is to visit www.warriorsagainstdebt.com and the best way to learn a new skill (to make serious money with) is to go to www.build-a-web.com
