An Internet snowstorm
Last week we ended by saying we need a system and a guide to use the Internet – both as a searcher and as a website-owner. You may be thinking “That’s okay, I have Google. Google can sift through all that information and just give me what I want.”
Now Google can be fantastic, I completely agree. BUT is Google your comforting friend and selfless guide? Think about it!
Unlike your local public librarian, Google and all those search engines are not a public service. They are profitable businesses, seeking to increase their profits all the time.
They make their money out of advertising. They sell their advertising by convincing advertisers that they can direct wandering searchers like us to their sites. This means they direct where we go. Control us, in other words. (Hmm.)
Google and co are no different really to the big media in many ways. Their loyalties are to the people who make them money. Not us. If you are using their services for free then you are the fodder, you are the cattle being herded up the chute ...
Just like TV, newspapers, magazines, who make most of their money out of advertising. Worse, in some ways! Because look at what is happening now:
Thanks to Google and co, the Internet is being undermined, flooded, drowned. Why?
Google has lots of brilliant minds who work every day finding ways to make sure that the best sites get into their top ten on a Google search. One thing they decided was that the more information you offer, and the more often you update it, this was a sign of being a truly useful website.
But there are many Google-watchers who try and work out how to make sure their sites feature in the top ten search results. (It’s called SEO, Search Engine Optimization.) And they work out what Google is looking for, and they give it to them.
At the moment, what this is causing is an absolute snowstorm of new content – a deluge, an avalanche, a tsunami – and a massive amount of this is just valueless.
And it’s getting worse – I saw an ad for a company promising to take an article and change it 1000 times over so that it reads as ‘original and unique’ – so you could theoretically copy and paste (steal) from someone else’s site, then make that same article yours 1000 times over without doing anything illegal. Or being downgraded by Google.
Now that means each and every one of us with a website could flood the Internet with 1000 times what we already have. Not 1000 the value, mind you. 1000 times the words. 1000 times the rehash, the reworking, over and over again, of the same thing that may have had very little value to start with!
I haven’t been able to find out more at this stage but I intend to try! In the meantime you can see that thanks to processes like this, the value of this once-promising tool, the Internet, is dropping fast.
So all these Libraries of Congress on the Internet (there must be millions by now)... it was always going to be tough to find the tiny amount of information that was truly valuable. Now it’s getting harder. Eventually it may not be worth the effort. Without a guide, anyway. Which is a pity.
I personally have benefited incredibly through what I have learned on the Internet. It is still possible to do so but now more than ever before, you are simply wasting your time to do it without a guide who is on your side.
That’s why my partner Leon and I created www.build-a-web.com. To give you only what you need to know to get a website up and running in less than an hour. Even if you know nothing about computers, programming or the Internet.
Can you imagine how many years of experience, and searching for true value, went into a course like this? I can tell you! On my side, several years of searching, trial and error. On Leon’s, about 15 years of training and experience in programming.
Yours in finding true value!

P.S. A success story and short tribute ...
Netta, my personal assistant, was like all of us. She used a computer but didn’t have special computer skills. She did the Build A Web course (at www.build-a-web.com) and guess what use she put it to this week? She rebuilt my website www.PropertySchool.co.za from scratch AND turned it into a membership site!
Now you can go there and sign up for exclusive value at no cost! Such as a series of 6 videos I recorded called “Property Investment in Uncertain Times”, as well as articles such as “What to do when your home isn’t selling”.
All of this took her less than a week – that’s starting from nothing and adding loads of pages and links and useful articles!
Why don’t you go there, to see what you can do too, with the right education and a little time and effort! While you’re there, if you like you can tell her what you think of her achievement! When you are logged in on www.PropertySchool.co.za click on this link or paste it into your browser:
PS If you do not want to go through the hassles to learn how to build a website for yourself (and you do have the money to pay her) she says she is willing to build one for you at a reasonable price – simply go to
http://www.propertyschool.co.za/Education/netta.html and leave her a message in the comment sectionJ
