Getting Back the Balance between your Work and Home Life

As with all seven areas of our life, we need to have balance to have abundance and one of the areas where people normally battle to achieve balance is between their work and home lives. Far too many of us are so rushed and busy working that we allow it to effect the positive balance of our home life.

I have found that people who are the busiest at work are very often actually getting the least amount of productive work done as they are very often not organized and simply not focusing on the important stuff, but rather letting smaller insignificant tasks and issues eat away at their time.

As I teach my Wealth Creators Mentorship students, time is a very precious commodity and you should be sure to have systems in place to assist you to be able to use it in the best possible way so as to achieve the most productive results. You don’t have to work harder to get more done, just work smarter.

It is those people who are not actually being productive and are grabbing at a multitude of insignificant tasks who find that they do not get there quota of work accomplished for the day and tend to take this stress home with them which then eats away at the quality of the time which they have at home because they are constantly worrying about their work environment.

Here are a couple of tips to help you achieve balance at your work:
  • Don’t allow procrastination to steal your time – Many people are of the opinion that by getting the smaller and less significant tasks for the day out of the way first, they will be able to focus on the main jobs later. However by doing this, chances are that you will very seldom get around to the main tasks as these smaller and insignificant tasks which you are taking care of will rob you of your time.
I personally believe in making a list of the tasks which will bring me closer to my dreams and what it is which I want to achieve and then prioritize them from most important to least important so that I know that what I am working on will have the most beneficial impact on my productivity and the results which I achieve.

Leave the small insignificant stuff and focus your attention on what matters!
  • Don’t be afraid to delegate – Many people to substantiate their own self-importance by believing that they need to do everything themselves or it will not be done correctly. Loose this habit and learn to delegate the jobs which others could be doing to able co-workers or employees. This once again will create time for you to concentrate on the stuff that really matters.
  • Slow it all down – If you find that you are always rushing and actually never seem to be getting anywhere, then it is time to slow it all down. Rather take the time to focus correctly on the task at hand than be running around getting nothing done. This approach will save you time in the long run and increase your productivity.
  • Don’t complicate things – People in general have the habit of trying to make things far more complicated than what they actually are. If you have systems in place, which I believe are an essential when it comes to being highly productive, and they work, don’t try to change them. I personally have a system or formula in place which I call the Formula for Riches which I find helps me to keep any situation in my life very simple as if the input into the formula does not yield the result I am looking for then I know the input is wrong as the formula stays the same.
  • Get rid of distractions – You need to be sure to limit the amount of distraction which interferes with your work, you need to set limits and allow those around you to understand that you do not want to be disturbed. If this means closing your office door then do so, switch your cell phone onto silent and focus on what it is which you are doing.
  • The power of “No”- If you know that the workload which you have is as much as you can effectively handle, learn to say “No” when more is about to be thrown your way, you need not be nasty about it but rather explain to your boss or whom ever it is that is wanting to give you the work the load you already have and that if you should accept more it would compromise your productivity and quality of work.
  • Organization – Be sure to keep yourself organized and your work area in order so that when you know what you are looking for you will know where to find it as this spares great amounts of time which might have been wasted looking everywhere for something. The same with your work schedule be sure to keep it organized as well so that you know what you should be doing when.
By following these basic tips you will soon realize that you are achieving far more throughout your work day and that there is no reason for you to have to cut into your home life with work worries.

Thus the time you have at home will be quality time for you and your family which will greatly assist you to begin to find the balance you need in your home life as well.
