It does not matter who or what you are, you will be sure to be far better at whatever it is which you are doing if you are implementing effective people management skills. Whether you are rich or poor, a top politician or a street sweep, if you are able to master the art of correct people management skills, you will be able to improve your productivity and harmony around the workplace and at home.

Understand for one second, the better you are able to implement your people management skills, the more willing others will become to do what it is that you are asking of them and actually enjoy doing it for you. They will also be more willing to listen to what it is that you are saying and actually take it into account before they decide what it is they need to do to be able to help you in the way which is to the best of their ability.

By implementing such skills correctly you will be able to get the team around you to function at their optimum performance and efficiency and thus be able to boost productivity and results. Many of us simply tend to take things for granted around us and spend very little time developing these people management skills to their full potential.

Here are a couple of pointers which will certainly help you to begin to improve on these skills and believe me you will see the results in the productivity of those around you should you learn how to implement them correctly.
  • Respect earns respect – We must always remember that respect is a two-way-street, if you are not willing to show respect to those you are dealing with, the chances that they will respect you are minimal. Regardless of who the person is that you are dealing with, if you have strong enough character and strength to be able to show respect for them and what it is you want them to do for you, you will go a long way to improving the results and enthusiasm which they will produce for you. All of us have the desire to be respected, irrelevant of what it is which we are doing.
  • See things from their prospective – Try to constantly be aware of as to how you would feel should you be in their position, would you like the way in which you are approaching them and would this way be the best in terms of getting the best reactions and results out of them? Productive people managers know how to see negativity or unhappiness amongst their teams and know how to react and find ways to change these feelings, remember, a happy team is a productive team.
  • Effective delegation – If you take the time to be sure that you are delegating the correct tasks to the correct people, you are automatically giving them the chance to excel at whatever it is which you are giving them to do. The end result is that each and every member of the team is doing whatever it is that they are best at and morale is boosted and productivity goes up.
  • Be sure to show appropriate gratitude – When we are working with others, we often might feel grateful for all the good work which they do for us, but how often do we actually express this gratitude so as to let them know they and the work they do are appreciated and noticed? Take the time out to say “Thank you” when someone in the team has performed well and you will be amazed at how much it does for morale and productivity. Try to once in a while find special ways of showing this gratitude, it does wonders for the productivity of the team.
  • Honesty first – This is a principle which applies not only to people management skills but life in general. Always try to be honest at all times with all those around you and yourself, this way you will earn the trust of those around you and they will know exactly where they stand with you. When people are able to trust you, they believe what you say more easily and your opinions and actions mean far more to them.
  • Remember the compliments – Always look for the points which you really admire in the team or person you are working with, this way you can be sure to make sincere compliments on a regular basis so as to motivate them through your recognizing their strong or good points and not focusing on the negative.
  • Lastly learn to listen – Far too many of us are not willing to actually listen and learn what it is that others are actually trying to say. Listening is actually 50% of all communication, so if we neglect to do it correctly, all communications could possibly be negatively influenced. By simply taking the time to listen correctly and try to understand what it is that others are really trying to say, you will gain great insight into being able to hone your people management skills and the results which you achieve.

By simply using these techniques you will already be able to greatly improve your people management skills and boost not only the productivity of those around you but in effect your own productivity as well as you will have more time to concentrate your attention on the important stuff. If you have any other simple ways of improving your people management skills, I would love to hear them in the comment section.
